Download

Download the Cowra Voices app onto your mobile phone from the App Store or Google Play.

Depending on your WiFi connection, the app may take a few minutes to download. It’s best to download all the contents before embarking on your storytelling tour around Cowra.

For Apple/IOS Users: 

  1. Go to www.cowravoices.org from the browser on your phone
  2. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page
  3. Tap on the banner that says ‘Download on the App Store’ on the bottom left hand side of the screen
  4. Tap ‘Get’ and wait for the Cowra Voices icon to finish downloading on your phone
  5. Once downloaded, tap on the Cowra Voices icon on your screen

 

For Android Users

  1. Go to www.cowravoices.org from the browser on your phone
  2. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page
  3. Tap on the banner that says ‘Get it on Google Play’ on the bottom right hand side of the screen
  4. Tap ‘Install’ and wait for the Cowra Voices icon to finish downloading on your phone
  5. Once downloaded, tap on the Cowra Voices icon on your screen

 

If you do not have an account with Apple or Google, you will need to follow the screen prompts after step 4 to register before continuing to step 5

 

 

Phone Settings: 

  1. make sure you have GPS Enabled in your settings
  2. you may need to adjust your Text Settings for to Normal or Standard depending on your phone.
  3. make sure you have the latest Operating System on your phone

Listening

Listening: The best way to listen to the audio stories is with headphones or earbuds.

If you’re having issues hearing the app through Bluetooth devices like speakers, try the following: 

  1. Toggle Bluetooth on/off, reboot, or unpair your phone
  2. Pair phone with Bluetooth and connect again 
  3. If your Bluetooth speaker is connected to a number of devices, it may be a good idea to turn some of the existing connections off to see if this improves connectivity
  4. Check battery strength to make sure it’s sufficient
  5. Make sure your software or firmware is up to date

If you are experiencing issues because of your phone locking, you could take the phone auto lock option off in your phone settings.

Map

If you’re in Cowra, go to the map, and the GPS will track your position so you can listen to the stories as you visit each of the 11 locations in the app.

The map can be seen as a 2D street map or a satellite map. The satellite map option may assist you in finding places that are off-road, such as the Indonesian Graves. Just click on the icon at the bottom right of the map to change from 2D to satellite map.

 

Access

Access: No matter where you are in the world, you can still listen to the stories via the Places menu and scrolling to each of the locations, then touching the sound bar.

Each audio story has a full transcript, just scroll down the page. The photo/music credits and captions are at the bottom of the transcript.
